Emergency Dentistry
While we can plan treatment for many dental issues in advance, there are times when you have an urgent problem that just can’t wait. We offer emergency dentistry for patients who need prompt dental treatment due to a broken tooth, toothache, lost crown, or other dental issues.
We Are Here for Your Dental Emergency
At the office of Michael Smith, DMD, we offer the prompt and expert treatment you need to get out of pain and save your smile. One of the benefits of establishing a dental home is that you always have professionals you feel comfortable turning to when you experience the unexpected.
Dr. Michael Smith, Dr. Snowber Fazili, and Dr. Nicholas Ridenhour all have the training and expertise to provide the dental treatment you need to resolve your situation.
Common Dental Emergencies We Treat
We offer expert care for a wide range of dental emergencies:
- Broken, chipped, or fractured teeth
- Lost crowns and tooth fillings
- Tooth pain, from mild to severe
- Bleeding or swollen gums
- Jaw pain or swelling
- Knocked-out tooth
If you are experiencing any of these problems or another that you don’t see here, please call us right away. We will make your dental emergency a priority and arrange to see you as soon as possible to resolve the issue so you can get back to enjoying your life.
Any of the dental services we offer may be used to treat your problem. We replace lost fillings and crowns, repair broken or decayed teeth, and perform root canals. We do everything we can to save the tooth, but if necessary, we also perform emergency tooth extractions.
You Can Avoid Many Dental Emergencies
Nobody likes unexpected dental problems or the discomfort or cost associated with them, like lost time from work or school. It is also much better for you and your overall oral health to ensure that your smile is always as healthy as it can be.
It’s easy to do this when you stay current with your routine dental exams and cleanings every six months. During these appointments, Dr. Smith, Dr. Fazili, and Dr. Ridenhour look for signs of obvious problems and note any changes since we last saw you. We also check the condition of all your fillings and dental restorations like crowns and bridges to make sure they are secure and in good shape. If we find any issues, we can treat them promptly, long before they cause pain or damage your oral health.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! We understand that dental emergencies can be upsetting and leave you wondering what to do next. If you have a toothache, lost crown, broken tooth, or any other urgent dental situation, call us at (618) 235-5141, and we will see you as soon as possible.
When you call, a helpful member of our team will ask what symptoms you are experiencing to determine how urgently we need to see you. Some problems, like a broken tooth, may be able to wait until the next day; others, like an excruciating toothache or jaw swelling, indicate a serious oral health issue that we need to address right away. Both may be signs of an advanced tooth infection that can even be life-threatening if left untreated.
We are open five days a week, and with three dentists on staff, there’s a good chance we can see your dental emergency the same day. While we may not be able to complete treatment that day, we will do whatever is necessary to ensure that you are safe and comfortable until we can schedule a separate appointment to treat it.
If you have tooth pain or any other urgent dental issue, don’t hesitate to call us right away. We would rather chat with you and find out you don’t have an emergency than have you suffer needlessly wondering what to do next. If you have a problem and think you need an emergency dentist in Belleville, please call the office of Michael Smith at (618) 235-5141, so we can help you.
